Marienbrücke (Mary's Bridge)
The bridge that launched a million postcards.
The Viewpoint
Marienbrücke is a pedestrian bridge that spans the Pöllat Gorge, 90 meters (300 feet) above the waterfall. It was built by King Ludwig II in honor of his mother, Queen Marie. It offers the **classic side profile view** of Neuschwanstein Castle that you see on every puzzle and poster.
⚠️ Crowd Warning
This bridge is NARROW. In summer, there is often a queue to get onto the bridge because capacity is limited. Our guide knows the best times to visit to minimize the wait.
How to get there
The bridge is located *above* the castle.
- From the Castle: It is about a 15-minute uphill walk from the castle entrance.
- From the Shuttle Bus: The bus drops you off right next to the bridge path.
- From our Tour: We walk up a scenic route that leads directly towards the bridge area before heading down to the castle.
Is it open in winter?
Often, no. The local authorities close the bridge immediately if there is ice or snow on the planks, as it becomes very dangerous. There is a gate that is locked. Do not attempt to climb over it.
